The Story of Layla

I've been intrigued by this famous rock triangle for years.
Being a huge George fan and an even bigger Clapton fan I know just how tight and unique the friendship between the two was. All of this despite a little detail in their history, when one wrote an entire album expressing his love for his his best friend's wife, and then married her.

I collected a number of articles about this story you might enjoy reading. A few things I learned from this little hunt, I didn't know before finding them:

  • "I am Yours", another song from "Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs", is also heavily influenced (and perhaps copied?) from the tale of Layla and Majnun.
  • After Eric divorced Pattie, George and him called themselves The two Ex husband-in-law. Ouch.

  • After Eric and Pattie married, they joined George in recording "Bye Bye, Love", a song awkwardly fitting their strange situation
Articles to read and enjoy:
  1. Crazy about Layla
  2. Wikipedia article about Layla
  3. Harrison, Clapton and Their Muse - a CNN article, Pattie interviewed.
  4. Behind The Hits: Layla
  5. George, Eric & Pattie - Not very well written, but in Hebrew.
  6. Some more Layla song facts
